Eco-designed packaging - Langlois Crémant de Loire

Committing to the futurethrough eco-designed packaging

Nature is precious. It is what nourishes the remarkable diversity of the Langlois terroirs and gives life to the outstanding expression of its grapes.

Every day, the Maison applies vineyard practices that respect soils and living ecosystems. But its commitment to protecting the environment does not stop there: it extends across every stage of its winemaking process. Among these, packaging choices remain essential, as reflected in its three core commitments.

Reducing packaging
and its environmental impact

Convinced of the relevance of this principle, Langlois no longer offers gift boxes for its bottles. These packaging formats, often highly cardboard-intensive, are also bulky and heavy: their transport generates significant greenhouse gas emissions.

As a result, the Maison provides Crémants de Loire enthusiasts with gift bags: a lighter and reusable alternative.

"The best waste is the waste that does not exist."

Creating more environmentallyfriendly cartons

With the ongoing aim of improving every link in its production chain, the Maison has made several upgrades to its bottle transport cartons. Semi-coated white kraft cardboard has, for example, been replaced with brown kraft cardboard. Unlike its predecessor, brown kraft does not require any treatment to be bleached or made glossy.

The printing technique has also been modified. In the past, paper rolls used for covering were printed before being glued onto the cartons. This process required transporting the rolls from the city where they were produced to the one where they were used. Today, Langlois cartons are printed directly: a less energy-intensive method that also reduces transportation needs.

Finally, the Langlois teams have reduced ink usage (from two colours to one) and overall ink coverage (from 75% to 50%). These key decisions result in fewer transport requirements for consumables, as well as a reduced volume of pigments to be recycled.

Prioritising ice buckets and tubs

from a circular economy

Beyond its work on packaging, Langlois is innovating in the eco-design of its other packaging solutions. As a producer of exceptional sparkling wines, the Maison has paid particular attention to the materials used for its ice buckets and tubs, designed to chill its cuvées.
After carefully assessing the different available options, Langlois turned to ÉcoRec®. This polypropylene is entirely derived from a recycling loop, enriched with natural elements mainly sourced from viticulture and winemaking (vine canes, cork, etc.). 100% recyclable, ÉcoRec® also has the advantage of being suitable for sorting within household plastic waste streams.
By designing more sustainable packaging solutions, Maison Langlois demonstrates its commitment to the environment—an approach that continues its vineyard practices, which are themselves respectful of ecosystems.
