The Clos Saint-Florent: an organic vineyard in the heart of the Saumur region

Overlooking the Loire, Clos Saint-Florent is one of the most distinctive terroirs of the Langlois estate. Its siliceous-limestone soils for the white wine and clay-limestone soils for the red, facing due north, benefit from the influence of prevailing winds, which give the grapes their characteristic Loire freshness. Cultivated organically and harvested by hand, the vines of the Clos, some of which are more than 60 years old, produce grapes of remarkable concentration and precision, with carefully controlled yields of 45 hl/ha.

Two grape varieties, two expressions of the same plot: Chenin Blanc for the white and Cabernet Franc for the red. Two wines that this evening will give you the opportunity to discover.

Clos Saint-Florent Blanc and Rouge in the spotlight

The organic Saumur Blanc Clos Saint-Florent 2023 is made from Chenin Blanc, the emblematic grape variety of the Loire, sourced from six plots of vines more than 35 years old. Aged for 12 months in French oak Burgundy barrels, it stands out for its tension and finesse. The colour is a luminous golden yellow. The nose reveals a complex bouquet combining quince and dried apricot with delicate woody notes. On the palate, the balance between richness and acidity reveals ripe fruit and a distinctly Loire freshness, leading to a silky, lingering finish.

The organic Saumur Rouge Clos Saint-Florent 2023 is made from 100% Cabernet Franc, sourced from two plots of old vines planted in 1965 and 1969. Vinified in 400-litre French oak barrels after a three- to four-week plot-by-plot maceration, it displays an intense, brilliant purple-red colour. The nose reveals fresh red fruit aromas of raspberry and blackcurrant, combining power and harmony. The palate is concentrated and balanced, blending structure with elegance and leading to a sustained, lingering finish.

Two wines of character, reflecting the same place and the same exacting standards.

Visits and tastings in Saumur: the Langlois experience all year round

September is one of the best times to visit Maison Langlois: the vineyard is buzzing with activity, the cool cellars provide a refreshing contrast to the last days of summer, and the atmosphere of the harvest can be felt throughout the estate. If you would like to extend your evening with a more immersive experience, Langlois offers guided tours and tasting experiences in Saumur all year round: an introduction to wine tasting, cellar tours, a wine and cheese workshop, or a horse-drawn carriage ride through the vineyard, available until the end of September.

How to get to Saumur?

September is an ideal time to discover Saumur and its surroundings, before the summer tourist crowds give way to the peaceful atmosphere of autumn along the Loire. The town is less than an hour from Angers and Tours, and less than two hours from Nantes. Car parks are available close to Maison Langlois.

For those wishing to extend their stay, you can also stay directly in the heart of the vineyard at Langlois Maison des Vignes, a private accommodation nestled within the Clos Saint-Florent. Advance booking is recommended for your stay.
